Mortgage Banking at Fifth Third Bank encompasses three sales channels # Retail, Direct and Correspondent. It also includes the operations side, with three major Fulfillment Centers in Cincinnati, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Chicago, Illinois. We offer many different mortgage loan options, and our customers look to us when they are thinking about buying a new home, building their dream home, refinancing their existing home, or exploring options for downsizing. Additionally, the Fifth Third partners with the Community College Foundation to bring the Financial Empowerment eBus to our communities. This bus is retrofitted as a mobile classroom that hits the streets to provide financial education on important topics including homeownership. We also play a key role in supporting homeownership by offering refinancing and modification opportunities.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Responsible for performing a wide range of duties related to customer service and pipeline management for our Correspondent lenders as it pertains to clearing loan conditions rendered by underwriting and to ensure credit guidelines aremet. These duties are both file specific and business to business level in nature. Proactively communicate to both internal & external clients as well as serving as a resource to underwriting and funding questions & loan scenarios.

Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank#s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as primary point of contact for all correspondent loan transactions.

  • Work with underwriting and purchasing department to collect information needed from correspondent and help to expedite the underwriting/purchasing process.

  • Interact with lenders to assist understanding with respect to loan policy practices and laws and how they can impact a Correspondent mortgage loan funding.

  • Utilize systems in place, including automated underwriting to ensure credit guidelines are met.

  • Manage expected service level related to condition clearing.

  • Review and manage pipeline to ensure maximum pull through rate.

  • Serve as main communication point as it pertains to loan status, loan scenarios and credit guideline criteria.

  • Provide feedback to both Account Executives & Correspondent Lenders.

  • Provide support to underwriting, and funding and Sales team.

  • Assist in the training of new correspondents about time frames, expectations.

  • Provide loan updates as needed to correspondent lender on files in underwriting or files being reviewed for purchase.

  • Set loans up for purchase in the system and stage appropriately, prepare purchase advice once docs are fully approved and loan has been funded.

  • Keep sales team informed of any potential issues and make them aware of training needs/opportunities with their clients.

  • Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company policies and procedures, in addition to private investor and portfolio Credit Policy and Guidelines.

  • Establish, foster, and maintain working relationships with peers and line management within the business unit to support an effective workflow and continuous improvement ethic.

  • Serve as an intermediary for loan issues with Sales, Correspondent clients and other related departments.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent. Two year Associates degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of conventional underwriting guidelines.

  • Three to five years or more years mortgage lending experience in processing.

  • Knowledge of the complete mortgage lending process.

  • High degree of attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • In-depth understanding of the computer loan application system(s).

  • Proven computer skills. Must be familiar with and experienced in MS Office based applications.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and high level of customer service.

  • Ability to make decisions in a time sensitive manner.
